Everything You Need to Know about the Quest

Follow your compass to an epic journey. But first, here's what you'll want to know before applying.

Where will this quest take me?

• This 1,600-mile adventure connects to the PCT. It starts at the steps of the Carson City Capital, through the Capital to Tahoe trail, up to Canada.

Who can apply?

• The Carson City to Canada Quest is meant for experienced hikers who are looking to push their limits and document their travels along the PCT.

What do participants get?

• On top of experiencing the adventure of a lifetime, Visit Carson City will provide $5,000 to each solo hiker completing this challenge.

When does this take place?

• The application period opens on Wednesday, March 6th, and closes on Friday, May 31, 5:00 p.m. PST. The review period will then begin and finalists will be contacted in late July.
• The start date for the Carson City to Canada Quest will take place in Summer 2025. Please note that the exact date will vary depending on weather conditions and snowpack in the mountains.

If selected, do I need to apply for any permits before I leave?

• Yes, if you're selected, it will be your responsibility to apply and obtain the necessary permits before departure, including a PCT Long-Distance Permit. This permit allows you to travel and camp along the PCT in the many places along the trail that require permits.
