Lisa Kurt is an artist and illustrator living and working in Reno since 2008. Originally from the Boston area, Kurt receiving her BFA in design and illustration from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and an MS in Library and Information Science from Simmons College. Until 2013, Kurt served as faculty librarian at the University of Nevada, Reno, leaving to pursue her art and illustration career.
She has taught at the Nevada Museum of Art and shown her work in Reno, New York City, Boston, San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles. She recently illustrated the children’s book Sarla in the Sky.
Kurt works primarily with acrylics and mixed media on canvas or wood panels. She integrates maps and other ephemera within her paintings. Through her work, she explores stories that involve people, animals, and creatures in mysterious settings, incorporating nature and the unexpected. Her work contains traces of nostalgia and melancholy. Kurt focuses on themes of childhood, nature, memory, stories, allegory, and dreams.
