Capital City Arts Initiative (CCAI) presents Creative Spark, featuring the works of thirty-two students from Carson, Dayton, Douglas, and Pioneer high schools. Creative Spark includes a wide variety of art media including ceramics, collage, drawing, painting, and photography that show the diversity of the students’ creativity. The free exhibition is available to the public through May 29, Mondays through Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Nevada Arts Council is unveiling a new traveling photo exhibition "Home Means Nevada" which will start its journey in the hallways of  the Nevada Legislature during the 2019 session.  The exhibition features the works of 15 contemporary photographers, but which echoes famous photographs and artwork from the late 1800's and early 1900's that helped spur protections for many of our nation’s national parks. Translating Paiute consists of contemporary mixed media paintings of images inspired by the landscape and culture of the Numu (Northern Paiute) of the Great Basin area. Artist Melissa Melero-Moose layers organic objects, sand, and acrylic washes to create a pictorial view of the Great Basin told through a textural surface. For more information visit the Nevada Arts Council website.

Students will work on their own paintings from subject matter they have chosen. The instructor, Mark Tompkins, will work one-on-one with each student to help them complete their project from start to finish. Each student must supply their own materials.
