Thanks to a number of partnerships and the hard work of many volunteers since 2007, The Kings to Ash trail is the flagship trail in Carson City. Seven well-built miles of smooth, twisting single-track connects two scenic Carson City canyons. Hikers and bikers are welcome to access the trail from either canyon. One will cover 2,000 ft in elevation gain from either side, but all that will be forgotten when views of Washoe Lake, Carson River Canyon, The Sierra Nevada Mountains and valley below open up. Crossing a diverse range of trail environments, Kings to Ash traverses 2 bridges, one of which goes over a waterfall. This trail is open to hikers and mountain bikers so stay alert. Dogs are welcome. The trail head is 1.3 miles past the end of King St on the dirt road leading up to Spooner Summit. One can park at the bottom and climb the road or high clearance vehicles can make the trek up to the trailhead. The trail head on the Ash Canyon side is off Winnie Lane. Bikers can park at the bottom off Foothill Drive and bike the lower trails up to the trail head or drive to the end of Winnie Lane and continue 1.5 miles up the dirt road to the official trail head.
