|Recurring Event (See all)
Every week on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday until August 29, 2014

The Capital City Arts Initiative announces its exhibition, BRIC Art 4, with artwork by eight area artists at the City’s Business Resource Innovation Center [BRIC]. CCAI will host a reception for the artists on Wednesday, October 9, from 5 – 7pm. The BRIC is located at 108 E Proctor Street, Carson City. The exhibition and reception are free and the public is cordially invited. The exhibition will remain at the BRIC through early September 2014; the building is open to the public Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm.

Each year at the BRIC, CCAI’s group exhibition presents area artists’ art in a diversity of styles and in a variety of media. The exhibition, spread throughout the first floor offices and conference rooms, presents artists’ creativity in photography, painting, sculpture, and printmaking. BRIC Art 4 features artwork by Kyle Akins, Megan Berner, Carol Brown, Erik Holland, Melissa Melero, Stephen Reid, Lynn Schmidt, and Julia Schwadron.

Carol Brown’s prints, admittedly inspired by Matisse, are a large series of collages in bright brown-9594primary colors. Stephen Reid’s elegant wood and tar sculpture, Dayton 7, welcomes visitors into the BRIC. Melissa Melero found inspiration for her mixed media paintings in the Nevada landscape and the Northern Paiute petroglyphs of her native culture. Photographer Megan Berner’s Good Morning grid gives a meteorological synopsis of Nevada mornings. Julia Schwadron’s paintings from her “You Are Here” series gives focus to the traveler’s experience painted during her year in Chiang Mai, Thailand. CCAI selected Kyle Akin’s abstract sculptures from his recent BFA exhibition at UNR. Erik Holland’s oil paintings celebrate the Nevada landscape with brilliant color and lively brushwork. Lynn Schmidt’s large bright watercolor portraits of 18-wheelers trigger smiles.

The Capital City Arts Initiative is an artist-centered organization committed to the encouragement and support of artists and the arts and culture of Carson City and the surrounding region. The Initiative is committed to community building for the area’s diverse adult and youth populations through art projects and exhibitions, live events, arts education programs, artist residencies, and online projects.
